Whatever my producer gives me to cut with. I trained on Avid Express, and have used Media Composer and Symphony since. I also edit with Final Cut Pro both professionally and for personal projects. My first student projects, though, were cut on Adobe Premiere, so there's that too. If you're going to be an film editor as your primary trade, it's a good idea to be familiar with a bit of everything.. You never know...  : )

We've cut our previous projects on Sony Vegas Pro ver. 6 & 8. Learning Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4 for future projects.

I currently cut all my projects on Avid Liquid Pro 7.2 which is an excellent program. The reason I initially choose it was because at the end of 2006 FCP was able to capture HDV directly from my JVC HD100 without an intermediate program. I am trained on FCP and Avid Media Composer.

I know AVID, FCP and Vegas but I seem to enjoy working the most in Premiere pro. Something about the Adobe workflow just works well with my brain and the feature set in Premiere is amazing.

In order of preference: Media Composer Grass Valley Edius PPro FCP (but it all depends on each project, sometimes FCP is the best fitting glove, sometimes Avid or Edius won't work for what we're trying to do in a project, etc)

I've been using Adobe CS4 for about two years now and I've never felt the need to switch to FCP. The only reason I would use FCP would be because it is becoming the industry standard and would use it for a job. But my personal projects will be all done with Premiere. I also use After Effects for everything but the most simple of titles and transitions. AE offers much more flexibility in title design and animation as well as creating unique and stylized transitions. The linking feature between Premiere and AE makes it incredibly time effective to work with effects in real-time instead of constantly rendering and importing.

Depending on the project but usually Avid Media Composer 5 for offline editing, for online editing Avid Nitris DS, and sometimes Final Cut is very friendly, for Compositing After Effects and Fusion.

Depending on the project and the clients needs, I can cut on Final Cut, Premiere or Vegas. I started out on Premiere and graduated to Final Cut so my first love is always Adobe Premiere.

Sony Vegas Pro 10. Its the least restrictive of the editors I've used (FCP, Premier, SpeedRazor) and has an upgrade path from the consumer versions (Vegas Movie Studio). The biggest plus for me it the infinate layers on the timeline, and the ease of navigation (Something FCP and Premier don't seem to allow for). One final thing, the audio facilities are fantastic, as in its original form Vegas was a multitrack audio recorder/editor, with the video part added about 10 years ago. Now the video part is better than most of the other editor out there (IMHO)

Oh, and one other (other) thing, us Vegas users have been able to use all HD formats and 2k and 4k files for years, including XD Cam at full res!!
