Dima Bijut’s, (user name: Mkidou) is our second winner of Showreel of the week, We thought Dima’s use of motion graphics and the slickness of his editing were exceptional.

First impressions are very important and Dima’s reel is a prefect example of how things should be done. A slick 3D title opens the showreel with his name and his game, in this case “Post and Motion”. The potential client immediately knows that Dima is a post production and motion graphic specialist and boy what a specialist he is! His sample clips show a wide range of design from the Nokia add which is clean with plenty of white space, to the extreme drifting and turning spot which is cluttered and full of saturated color.

The format of the Showreel tends to let the work speak for its self. Though there are subtle bits of text that give us an example of what Dima and his work are about. For instance “ready for action” and “What you really need is a healthy dose of imagination” flash past the screen as part of previous work that Dima has done. Rather than stating his intention directly, Dima’s previous work has done it for him, pretty clever stuff really.

Once again our clip of the week is just a minute long and I think most will agree that a judgment on the quality of work you could expect from Dima could be made just by watching his main Showreel. Dima’s strength is high end advertising and corporate motion graphics work, which is very plain for a client to see. Also worth a mention is the rocking soundtrack, it fits the fast paced motion work brilliantly.

A slick reel that targets the high end motion graphic client superbly. A form of communication embedded in the reel is always a bonus (which is absent in Dima’s reel), a website link will do. As you never know where your Showreel might end up.

Wicked stuff Dima, all the best for the future!

On the home page of Reel Clever we will be exhibiting a Showreel of the week, hand picked by the Reel Clever team. Each week a write up will accompany the Showreel giving insight as to why we picked it. Right lets get to it!

Mark Brown’s main Showreel was our first Showreel of the week, It was an exemplary work that caught our eyes because of its tight editing, varied body of work and use of contact information and references.

Mark’s reel shows off a great number of events that Mark has captured, from lawn mowing to boxing. This shows us that he is a seasoned video producer who can handle many different situations and make them look good, with stunning composition. There is technical variance in the Showreel as well. We see some time-laps footage, some special effects, some quick cutting and some longer.

While its good to show variance, playing to your strengths in your Showreel is essential. Mark’s composition and editing seem to be His. The Showreel is one captivating minute long. Each shot is carefully chosen and its clearly his best work on show. If your Showreel is struggling in the length department, don’t include sub par work. Wait until you film a few more masterful shots, then include them later on.

It’s clear mark has the potential client in mind with the inclusion of contact details, great stuff! Also his use of quotes was effective, though some more so than others, for example.

“I would definitely recommend him”
Is not as effective as
“When I give speeches in London, I call Mark Brown He’s well organized, easy to work with and delivers an awesome product.”
The keywords highlighted in bold font above really make that quote a worthy addition.

All in all a solid, tightly edited reel with varied shots, contact information and shining references. We all wish mark the best for his future filmatic endeavors!
