This Weeks showreel of the week goes to David Kok (username: david). David's reel is a super slick showcase of advertisements with imagery ranging from dancing carrots to Audi R8's.

David's reel starts with a solid title plate though he does omit a key detail, that being his job title. It is clear some of the works in his reel were works of collaborations, requiring producers, directors, conceptualizers, directors of photography... etc. Though by skimming though the reel I think we can assume that David is a motion graphic and editing specialist. The reel is well edited and fits the music nicely. There's nothing quite like chucking in a few big brands to fortify your professionalism, David has worked for some pretty big companies. There is a nice range of technique present, from fully CG scenes, live capture and photo montages all have an equally high level of mastery.

Slick stuff David, hopefully your reel provides inspiration to aspiring artists on Reel Clever.

This Weeks showreel of the week goes to Ken Evans (username: fluid-image). Ken 's reel is a superb mix of idea's and delicious eye candy thats well edited into a two minute package.

Ken's showreel doesn't include any contact information embedded in the video, this is fine for sites like Reel Clever where contact information is available, but its worth chucking at least an email address into your reel incase it gets ripped and sent around virally. That is the only gripe we have with Ken's reel, so now onto the praise and glory.

Ken's showreel is effectively a two minute montage with a random mix of short film, music video, events and motion graphics. Each shot shows a high level of professionalism in every visual department, especially lighting. There's some quite complex lighting going on but it fits seamlessly within the rest of the Mise en scène. There's a shot towards the end of an interview with a rocker that really shines in the lighting department. Snazzy shots aside Ken has some great visual concepts and camera placement. In particular the stop motion shots of the chairs as audio meters and the shots taken from a camera attached to a BMX bike were just very smart ideas, simple but very effective.

You should also check out Ken's profile and check out the trailer to his psychological thriller film "The Lift" It looks like a pretty slick flick. Keep up the sweet work Ken!

This Weeks showreel of the week goes to Daniel Taylor (username: ekodan). Dan's showreel is a pretty intense 7 minute montage that showcases a variety of video productions

From the opening titles we can assume that dan works for the company Eko Create which specializes in video production. The showreel bounces along to the music at a staggeringly fast pace. We counted 63 cuts in the first minute and the reel keeps up a similar pace the whole seven minutes. After the first minute or so we found ourselves skipping through the reel watching a few seconds then skipping ahead again.

We skipped through the reel not because of boredom, but simply because there was too much information to process in such little time (330 cuts all up!). But this high shot count does make It clear that Ecko Create has been around for a while and their work is varied, corporate, advertisement, music video and the last section of the reel is dedicated to web based output which is great. All the shots look professional and tidy and the reel is categorized into different sections which adds some much needed order to the madness of montage

Dan's seven minute montage works both as a curse and a blessing, on one hand it's too long, on the other it proves that the company has achieved a lot. We would hire you Dan! Despite your odd taste in music, (view the reel to see what we mean) all the best for your future endeavors!

This Weeks showreel of the week goes to Joe Penna: Username - pennajoe Joe's Reel is very slick and packs a lot of content and information into a Showreel only a minute long.

Joe drops us right into his reel by dropping some big name brands that he has produced video work for.

After the big name montage we are treated to a series of compositing breakdown shots. Break down shots are useful for a client to gauge the quality and style of the compositors work. Usually the final composite is shown, then the same shot is repeated and each separate element is shown with accompanying explanatory text.

Unless your a dedicated compositor only one or two break down shots are needed per showreel. We learn from the ending title that Joe specializes in editing, videography and compositing. Joe strikes an excellent balance with these three quite separate fields. The reel is well edited and keeps pace with the music, the cinematography is excellent and the breakdown shots are fine examples of compositing technique.

Slick Reel Joe, we hope too see some more of your work on reel clever!

Emma Bodger’s (user name emmab) unique Showreel is this weeks home page feature. When you check it out you will notice it looks a bit clearer, we have upped the bit-rate on all uploaded videos in preparation for our new player.

Emma has gone for a very interesting slant on her Showreel which caught our eye. It is a dedicated short film, it shows no client work, but does show a high degree of ambition, professionalism and ability to turn concept into film. Emma’s Showreel has an amazing amount of detail with a black and blue (capsule films logo colors) color pallet running through out. The Woman delivering the capsules shoes are colored black and blue for example.

There’s some great lighting and cinematography in the piece and a few little cheeky touches, such as the spinning suitcase. We at the Reel Clever office had similar expressions to the characters in the film after viewing the psychedelic montage that features about halfway through the reel. Perhaps the montage could have included some more information on capsule films and their services. But really the reel serves well as a launching platform to the studios website, which is well displayed at the end.

Emma’s Showreel was ambitious and effective, we hope to see more of her work in the future.
